Vitiligo is a non-contagious, genetic skin disorder commonly recognised as white patches on the skin. They can appear on any one part of the body or all. These patches can also appear on the tissues inside the mouth and nose, and inner layers of the eyeball. You may also notice hair turning completely white.
When the body interferes with the pigment producing process of the skin’s pigment cells — melanocytes, one is prone to getting diagnosed with Vitiligo. The pigment of the skin can also be lost after certain surgical treatments and traumatic accidents like burns. The white scars visible on the skin after procedures like facelifts and aggressive facial laser treatments such as CO2 laser resurfacing are also identified as Vitiligo patches.
Since Vitiligo is a treatable condition, at Skinaid Clinic, our experts recommend Phototherapy as a suitable solution. Phototherapy is the use of certain specific segments of the ultraviolet (UV) light spectrum where the skin is exposed to the light delivered by the unit. Our clinic is equipped with a cabinet unit to treat the patches.
Depending on the severity of the condition, we may prescribe a procedure involving:
Narrowband UVB
Psoralen lotion plus Ultraviolet A
Psoralen baths or soaks plus UVA
Systemic Psoralen plus UVA
Combination UVA and Broadband UVB
Our experts are cognizant of the nature of skin development and the human body functioning. Upon consultation and examination, they develop and design a suitable course of phototherapy treatment, followed by a post-treatment self-care regime.
